Blue opalina, often referring to a natural Peruvian blue opaline or an opalized chrysocolla, is a unique gemstone known for its soothing color and metaphysical properties.

Physical Properties

Composition: Natural blue opalina is an opalized chrysocolla, a combination of Andean opal and chrysocolla. Chemically, opals are hydrated silica mineraloids, meaning they lack a defined crystalline structure.

Colour and Appearance: It typically exhibits a deep denim blue or teal color, often with green and brown inclusions. It is generally opaque to semi-translucent, unlike precious opals which display a "play-of-colour" (a shifting spectrum of hues).

Hardness: On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, blue opals generally rank between 5 and 6.5, making them relatively soft and requiring careful handling.

Luster: It usually has a vitreous (glassy) to resinous luster.

Origin: The natural form of this stone is primarily found in the Andes mountains in Peru.
